The most unusual room-requiring the most hours to prepare-is the dedicated home theater. Artists Patricia Loop and Paula Berry created the feeling of a theater with faux finishes on walls and ceiling and three-dimensional artwork: to the right are comedy/ tragedy masks and to the left a conductor's hands, in salute to the orchestra's sponsorship.
Many new homes have multipurpose media rooms, where families watch tele¬vision, play games, listen to music or work on the computer; very few have a room that is specifically for movies only. Every aspect of a dedicated home theater is designed to make the experience as similar to that of a large cinema as possible.
The wall studs are staggered in order to maximize acoustical quality and soundproofing. The Snell THX Ultra 2 speakers are top-rated, George Lucas quality and tuned to accommodate the unique artwork on the walls. The average media room uses approximately 10 to 12 remotes to operate all components, but this theater requires only one.
Hit one button labeled "Watch Movie" and the lights dim, the popcorn pops (okay, not really) and the movie begins. How simple. "If it's too complicated, people won't use it," note the Franzeses. - House Trends Magazine - Lyla Haggard
